Future Rotorcraft Technologies

The laboratory develops technologies for manned or Uncrewed rotary wing platforms, aimed at making design and certification processes more efficient, improving mission capability and reducing operating costs, to meet today’s requirements for urban air mobility and decarbonisation.

The laboratory studies multiple areas: advanced modelling, simulation and Digital Twin solutions, Artificial Intelligence-based functions to support autonomous flight, external environment perception and onboard diagnostics, the electrification of propulsion systems (including the use of hydrogen combustion cells), the development of innovative coatings to reduce wear in extreme conditions, and the damage mechanisms in the composite materials of rotors.
