Extraordinary images and breathtaking shots, but above all search, rescue, and recovery in case of disasters, and the containment of an epidemiological emergency. These are just some examples of the numerous practices that drones can fulfil, from professional use to entertainment. The drone sector is growing rapidly. This enables these instruments through innovation to operate autonomously with ranges that go well beyond the line of sight, and in challenging areas by which these flying machines have already shown to excel.
Leonardo has been active for some time in this sector. Over the last two years, the company has expanded its stance through the Drone Contest, which is an open innovation initiative in collaboration with six Italian universities. The contest promotes the application of Artificial Intelligence in the field of uncrewed systems, and puts together the capabilities of a large corporation and those of academic excellence.
How is a drone made? What will the new generation of drones be like? How will drones integrate new technologies, which are enabled by STEM disciplines applied to advanced research? What are the new drone applications and missions that are entering the market?
These are the questions at the heart of the Live Talk “DRONI: tecnologie e missioni”, organised as part of the STEMLab initiative, which will be held on Thursday 4 November 2021 at 16:00. This will be attended by Massimo Temporelli, scientific communicator and co-founder of TheFabLab; Moira Bellachioma, Leonardo SpA/Uncrewed Systems; Lorenzo Marconi, Full Professor at the University of Bologna; and Valentina Russo, a Drone Pilot.
