Leonardo leads the helicopter supply for energy industry support

The maritime energy sector is expanding, with a growing need for helicopters for personnel and material transport, maintenance and rescue. Marco Morino describes Leonardo's role and activities in support of the energy industry in the article inside the “Dossier Transizione Energetica” of “Il Sole 24 Ore”.

Every two minutes, a Leonardo helicopter takes off around the world to perform missions related to offshore energy activity. With a fleet of almost 500 dedicated helicopters, out of a total of 4,500 in service globally, the Group has achieved a 75% market share in 2023 for offshore helicopter deliveries.

Over the next five years, the number of offshore infrastructures is set to grow. Helicopter transport and support services will thus play an increasingly central role in supporting the energy business. The agreement between Leonardo and Gdhf (Gd Helicopter Finance), for the introduction of further AW189 helicopters, recognised for their performance and safety, in this specific sector, fits into this perspective.
