IAC2022: Leonardo at the centre of the debate on the challenges of the space sector

18 September 2022

The International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the most famous international event dedicated to the space sector is taking place 18 to 22 September at the Paris Convention Center where Leonardo will participate in the debate on the activities and challenges of the space sector, while in Italy preparations continue to host the 75th edition of IAC in Milan in 2024.

Held in a different city since 1950 and organized by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), it counts over 6,500 visitors from more than 80 countries.  IAC is the event that brings together experts to discuss activities and challenges related to Space. From industries to research centers and associations, from space agencies to sector enthusiasts, IAC is a small “universe” in which the mysterious and distant Space seems closer.

With the theme "Space for @ll", the 2022 edition will also pay special attention to students and young professionals, who will be closely associated through dedicated events. And the general public will not be forgotten, as space-themed conferences and exhibitions will accompany IAC.

Leonardo and its joint ventures, Telespazio (Leonardo 67%, Thales 33%) and Thales Alenia Space (Thales 67%, Leonardo 33%), will again be among the participants.

Main themes highlighted in the rich program of conferences and debates include: Earth observation, space robotics, and the development of sustainable infrastructures for the return to the Moon. There are areas in which Leonardo and the joint ventures play a fundamental role with their contribution to the main international programs, from Copernicus and the James Webb Space telescope to Artemis and Mars Sample Return

IAC2022 will also be an opportunity to promote #T-TeC, the Leonardo and Telespazio open innovation contest on space open to students and researchers from all over the world.

Meanwhile, Italy is preparing to host the 75th edition of IAC in Milan from 11 to 18 October 2024. Milan was named as the host city in October 2021 after promotion by Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA), the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and Leonardo, representing respectively the academic world, the institutions and the Italian space industry.

During IAC 2022, the new website dedicated to IAC 2024 will be presented.
