  • Research areas
  • Federico Rollo is a Leonardo Labs Research Fellow in AI and robotics. He collaborates with two research areas: Robotics for Manufacturing and Space Robotics Labs which cooperate respectively with the Human-Robot Interfaces and Physical Interaction (HRI²) and Humanoids & Human Centered Mechatronics (HHCM) research unit of Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT).

Federico Rollo received his B.Sc. in Computer Engineering (Autonomous Systems curriculum) at «Università degli Studi Roma Tre» in 2018. In 2020, he pursued the M.Sc. in Control Engineering at the University of Rome «La Sapienza» where he took part in different courses and projects regarding fixed and mobile robotics, artificial intelligence and control systems.

He is currently working in Leonardo Labs as a Researcher in the Navigation, Perception and Artificial Intelligence areas for robotics.

His research activity is mainly based on navigation and perception for robots, but he also carries out activities in artificial intelligence, neural networks and robots’ control. Using sensors like cameras, lidars, ultrasonic sensors, radar, GPS, IMU and encoders, the robot achieves exteroceptive and proprioceptive capabilities with which it will be able to perform autonomously different tasks, among which are manipulation, navigation, mapping and localisation.
