Space and Cyber: pillars of security

22 April 2024

An in-depth article published today in the special edition of Milano Finanza, for the newspaper’s 35th anniversary, takes stock of the key directions for Leonardo’s technological development. Space and cybersecurity play crucial roles in the new Business Plan, both in terms of corporate growth and in redefining the concept of traditional defence.

Supercomputing, cloud computing and artificial intelligence are some of the digital technologies that are becoming increasingly central in the current international scenario marked by hybrid and multi-domain conflicts. In this context, the concept of Defence is shifting towards a paradigm change, gradually expanding towards the idea of global security.

The article describes Leonardo’s systems and solutions, based on artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, cybersecurity, space, cloud, and digital twins. These technologies enable the company to ensure the security of territories, critical infrastructure and transportation, as well as the protection of ecosystems, thus contributing to sustainable growth.

The challenge for global security extends beyond our planet as well. Space provides new services that help promote sustainability, combat climate change, and improve people’s lives. Leonardo's global monitoring activities allow for the collection of an enormous amount of data which, through the high computing power of the Leonardo davinci-1 supercomputer, is processed and transformed into useful information that can be protected and shared through cloud computing.
