Incentivising supplier improvement

Incentive system - Company

Sustainability is not only a responsibility, but a strategic driver of competitiveness. Choosing it today means investing in the company’s strength and future, innovating with integrity, and building a more efficient, resilient and responsible value chain.

In line with the commitment of the entire AD&S sector, Leonardo is accelerating its initiatives to strengthen sustainability across the entire value chain. Integrating these principles into its strategy enables the creation of value for the company, customers and suppliers, contributing to a long-term oriented industrial system capable of delivering tangible benefits such as:

  • Improved quality and innovation in processes and products
  • Greater resilience and risk management capability
  • Enhanced competitiveness and efficiency through optimised use of resources
  • Stronger reputation and visibility
  • A more robust relationship with Leonardo through collaboration on medium- to long-term objectives

Leonardo adopts a partnership-based approach with its supply chain, rewarding and supporting suppliers that demonstrate a concrete commitment to sustainability. To incentivise them and recognise the contribution of the most virtuous partners to the achievement of corporate objectives, the company has introduced sustainability criteria into the process for awarding high-value tenders, with particular emphasis on:

  • the supplier’s sustainability performance, assessed through participation in the EcoVadis assessment and the related rating;
  • the supplier’s contribution to decarbonisation targets, assessed through the supplier’s commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

These requirements are complemented, where necessary to meet specific business needs, by additional sustainability criteria.

Partners that share Leonardo’s commitment to sustainability are further recognised through:

  • preferential collaboration programmes (Preferred Supplier);
  • dedicated recognition schemes (Leonardo Supplier Awards);
  • access to joint projects, training initiatives and support programmes focused on decarbonisation, energy efficiency and the circular economy.

The transition towards a more sustainable supply chain is made possible through shared commitment and the contribution of partners who have chosen to embrace Leonardo’s vision. They are acknowledged by the Group and encouraged to continue building a safer and more sustainable future together.
