The Leonardo - Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (LRMV) joint venture (JV) aims to become a reference hub in the land Defence sector in Europe. With an equal shareholding of Leonardo (50%) and Rheinmetall AG (50%), its objective is to develop and market new combat vehicles starting from the Italian Army's renewal process of its heavy vehicle lines.

European synergy

Leonardo

Development and production of mission systems and electronic suites; production and integration of defence systems; responsibility for the propulsion system.

Rheinmetall AG

Production of vehicle hulls and supply of other variants, including air defence.

With a value of over 23 billion, the MBT and AICS programmes open up new export prospects for a total value of up to 50 billion over the next fifteen years. This will foster the development of new technological skills and a flow of innovation that will accompany the two companies for decades to come.

Technologies from different Italian regions will be integrated in La Spezia, the operational headquarters of the JV. Hundreds of suppliers will be involved in the programmes, with thousands of jobs created, generating increased human capital, new R&D programmes and a growing value chain, not only for La Spezia, but for the entire Italian territory.
