Participation in Associations

By participating in domestic and international networks and associations, Leonardo aims to establish a stronger dialogue with relevant stakeholders and multiply the positive impact of sustainability on its business activities. Leonardo participation ranges from presidency/chairperson, board member, working group chair, and working group member. Leonardo contributes to ad-hoc working groups and taskforces by contributing to position papers, proactively engaging in discussions and by representing and advocating for the positions agreed within the associations.

While conducting these engagement activities on climate-related issues, Leonardo refers to the Group’s environmental targets and its commitment to decarbonization along the entire value chain, which are an integral part of its strategy.

Before joining an association or an organization, an evaluation is carried out by the internal competent departments to assess the alignment with the Group’s strategy, including sustainability strategy and commitment to climate action. The alignment between the objectives of industry associations and Leonardo’s strategies is monitored also throughout the collaboration.

Below is a list of some of the most significant associations.

Global Compact

In 2018, Leonardo joined the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, based on ten universal principles linked to human rights, labour, the environment and the fight against corruption. In 2022, Leonardo showed its commitment to the Global Compact and its Ten Principles by participating in the platform on Sustainable Finance, and by presenting an Advanced COP (Communication On Progress).

Leonardo has taken part in the activities of the Fondazione Global Compact Network Italia, including as a founding member, since 2018, with the aim of contributing to the development of the Ten Principles of the Global Compact at a national level. From 2022, Leonardo is a member of the Foundation’s Steering Committee. Within this framework, dialogue and exchanging ideas with other businesses in Italy on prominent issues (such as decarbonisation, climate change, diversity and inclusion) are crucial to consolidate the culture of sustainability in Italy’s manufacturing ecosystem, in line with the sustainable development objectives set out in the UN Agenda 2030.

CSR Europe

Leonardo became a member of CSR Europe (Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility), the leading European business network for corporate sustainability, in September 2021. The network brings together more than 10,000 companies, with the aim of creating synergies and building shared approaches towards sustainability issues.
