Our capabilities and solutions
Helicopters
In Canada, approximately 50 Leonardo helicopters operate for civil, military, and public service operations. We offer certified support throughout the country, including advanced training and simulation packages, and tailor-made maintenance plans. Together with our Team Cormorant partners, we are leading the modernisation of the AW101/CH-149 SAR “Cormorant” helicopter fleet, which provides the Canadian Air Force with robust and technologically advanced search and rescue capabilities, increasing reliability, operational capacity and safety. In addition to complete control in the development of key technologies in vertical flight and a global technical support and training network, Leonardo’s range of solutions extends to remotely piloted systems and tiltrotors, with cutting-edge technological solutions for the air mobility of the future.
Aircraft
Our aerostructures, made of composite or traditional alloys, fly over Canada with Airbus, Boeing and Dassault airplanes in support of commercial and general aviation. We have 40 ATR turboprop regional aircraft providing passenger and freight services across Canada.
Defence Electronics
Through our local presence, we provide services to the Government and Armed Forces in the air, land, naval and space domains. The offer includes weather radar, communication systems and services for Defence, Electronic Warfare systems and countermeasures, and Counter-UAS. Leonardo’s advanced multi-domain technological solutions guarantee awareness of the operational scenario and information superiority, supporting decisions and interventions along the entire chain of command.
Uncrewed Aerial Systems
We are a pioneer in the unmanned aerial vehicle sector and a partner in the major European UCAV (Uncrewed Combat Aerial Vehicle) and MALE (Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance) initiatives. Our offering includes tactical fixed and rotary wing platforms, remotely operated helicopters (RUAS) and optionally piloted helicopters (OPH) and radio targets, which can be used in a variety of civil and military roles. We are one of the few manufacturers in the world capable of providing complete end-to-end unmanned aerial solutions, including aircraft, mission system and ground control station, as well as a full range of advanced sensors.
Cyber and Security
We provide complete solutions to ensure public safety and security, to prevent cyber threats to institutions, critical infrastructures, and businesses, and to support law enforcement. Our offering integrates cyber intelligence, data mining, big data analytics, mission critical communications, video surveillance, and video analytics. These "systems of systems" are customised for a variety of complex security environments, capable of connecting multiple sites and thousands of sensors.
Space
We have the most advanced know-how to contribute to the development of the strategic Space sector in the country, leveraging internal skills and those of the Space Alliance (partnership between Leonardo and Thales). In particular, the Space Alliance has acquired a stake in NorthStar Earth and Space Inc., a Montreal-based information services company, which is developing the most advanced satellite system in the world for monitoring the Earth's environment and near space. Through this investment, the Space Alliance is a protagonist in the global Space Economy, providing NorthStar with solutions for the design, development, and construction of a unique constellation of 40 satellites that will provide Space Situational Awareness and Geo-information services.
Automation
We design and install complete turnkey baggage handling systems, including a full suite of IT components and a wide range of after-sales services. In particular, Leonardo supplies the Multisorting Baggage Handling System (MBHS), a system based on the innovative Cross-Belt sorting technology, operating in many of the world's major airports, which guarantees the system maximum operational efficiency, low management and maintenance costs, sorting accuracy and speed and scalability.
Where we are
Ottawa
Leonardo Canada
Leonardo Canada, based in Ottawa, coordinates all commercial activities in Canada, including those activities related to Defence and Defence Systems, Aeronautics programs for Air Traffic Control, Cyber Security and Automation with focus on solutions for airports, postal operators and couriers.
Ottawa is also where Tactical Engagement Simulation software is produced for the international Electronic Warfare market, used in more than thirty EW Operational Support Centers, Air and Maritime Walfare Centers, Intelligence Agencies, Operational Research, and EW Engineering Agencies around the world.
The Halifax, Nova Scotia, facility designs and manufactures full MIL-SPEC qualified power conversion and distribution equipment including uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), power conditioners, rectifiers, power converters, and battery chargers for military shipboard, vehicle and air force applications.
At the Kanata facility, a broad range of military communications, electro-optics, surveillance and sensor signal processing systems for naval and ground applications are manufactured and supported.
