Learning for the future: a new year with STEMLab and Leonardo’s FSL programs

From aerospace to digital innovation, through entrepreneurship, generative AI and sustainability, Leonardo is renewing its educational offering to guide students and teachers in discovering the scientific and technological challenges of today and tomorrow.

Promoting scientific and technological culture, bringing young people closer to the professions of the future and strengthening dialogue between schools and industry. With these objectives, Leonardo is renewing its commitment to education, expanding its offering of online Work-Based Learning Programs (Formazione Scuola Lavoro-FSL) and STEMLab educational resources for the 2026/2027 school year.

An evolving set of initiatives that provides students and teachers with activities, innovative tools and digital content to develop STEM skills, transversal competencies and greater awareness of the technological challenges that are transforming the present and shaping the future.

“Flying with Leonardo”, the journey to discover aerospace continues

The “Flying with Leonardo” Work-Based Learning course guides students in discovering the world of flight and aerospace through video lessons, podcasts, interactive applications and first-hand accounts. Thanks to its strong connection with Leonardo, participants can gain a closer understanding of the skills, professions and real-world applications that characterise the aerospace sector.

Edition after edition, the initiative continues to demonstrate its ability to engage Italian schools: 1,300 students completed the program over the past year, while 8,900 participants have taken part since the initiative was launched.

“The science of vertical flight”, a standout first year

“The science of vertical flight” offers the opportunity to explore the world of rotorcraft, with a particular focus on helicopters, tiltrotors, drones and the sector’s next-generation technologies.

In its first year as a structured FSL program, the initiative achieved significant success, confirming schools’ interest in the helicopter sector and its applications. To date, the project has involved 2,900 participants and 300 schools.

What’s new for Work-Based Learning Programs in 2026/2027

This year, the Work-Based Learning offering is expanding with two new courses dedicated to upper secondary school students:

  • “Discover, Navigate, Create”

“Discover, Navigate, Create” is a journey into the world of engineering applied to detection and navigation systems. Participants explore technologies such as radar and electro-optical/infrared sensing, used to observe, analyse and interpret the surrounding environment, even in complex conditions, while exploring their applications in the aeronautics, space and security sectors. At the end of the initiative, a Project Work offers the opportunity to put the knowledge acquired into practice.

  • “From Idea to Business”

Designed to bring young people closer to the themes of entrepreneurship and innovation, the new program “From Idea to Business” helps students transform an idea into a structured pathway. The six learning modules address the fundamental concepts of entrepreneurial culture, from defining the value proposition to developing a startup.

STEMLab: new resources for the skills of the future

With 3,000 teachers and 2,000 schools involved, STEMLab continues to contribute to the spread of STEM disciplines. Video lessons, practical activities, digital tools and interdisciplinary learning paths enable students to discover some of the main areas of innovation, from Artificial Intelligence and Big Data to Additive Manufacturing and space, as well as robotics, cybersecurity and quantum technologies, through an approach based on direct experience and problem solving.

For the 2026/2027 school year, the offering is expanding further with new content dedicated to Generative Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twin, designed to explore the most advanced applications of digital innovation. Another new addition is Level UP – Building Sustainability, an interactive resource for lower and upper secondary school students. Building a Sustainable City puts the concepts of sustainability and the 2030 Agenda at the centre, helping students understand the role of businesses and the contribution of digital technologies in supporting responsible choices.

A commitment that looks to the future

Through STEMLab and its Work-Based Learning Programs, Leonardo continues to invest in developing the scientific, technological and digital skills of younger generations. A tangible commitment that contributes to building an increasingly strong bridge between education, innovation and the world of work.
