Selex ES-led consortium wins €10.3M contract to hook EU governments up to Galileo satellite's secure navigation signals

Selex ES has been awarded a €10.3M contract by the European GNSS Agency (GSA) to deliver the first generation of Public Regulated Service (PRS) operational receivers for use by PRS participants in EU member states.

Selex ES, a Finmeccanica company, has been awarded a €10.3M contract by the European GNSS Agency (GSA) to deliver the first generation of Public Regulated Service (PRS) operational receivers for use by PRS participants in EU member states. The project, called ‘P3RS2’, will allow authorised government end users to access the PRS signals of the Galileo satellite constellation. This European encrypted navigation service is designed to detect jamming and involuntary interference and provide enhanced resistance to these threats compared to older systems, while also making available, for the first time, spoofing-proof capability for non-military operations.

 

Selex ES will lead a consortium to deliver the project with Telespazio, Astrium, Siemens AG, IABG and Fraunhofer IIS as partners.

 

Andrea Biraghi, VP Cyber Security & Information Assurance at Selex ES said; “These are the first operational receivers produced as part of an EU programme and will allow EU member nations to test the PRS signal in real scenarios. We’re proud to be leading such a cutting-edge EU project.”

 

This use of the receivers in the PRS pilot project will pave the way for the future exploitation of the service. Further development work will see the PRS receiver’s Interface Control Document (ICD) defined, and a certification / accreditation process put in place for the PRS secure module and receiver.
