NEMESI, the digital industry as an opportunity for the territory

11 December 2023

Under the NEMESI – New Engineering & Manufacturing Enhanced System Innovation – project, the historical Pomigliano d’Arco site, which produces aerostructures in the province of Naples, is becoming a smart factory inspired by Industry 4.0 principles. The project’s figures, technologies and goals are illustrated in an interview with Danilo Cannoletta, Head of NEMESI, Digital Transformation & Product Cyber Resilience Officer at Leonardo Aerostructures.

To build a centre of excellence in Pomigliano d'Arco for the innovation of aerostructures, from regional to narrow-body aircraft: this is the challenge made possible by the NEMESI project, through which the Campania-based facility will be transformed into a smart factory. How? Through a next-generation industrial process based on digitalisation, automation and the application of disruptive technologies, inspired by the Industry 4.0 paradigm.

As emphasised by Danilo Cannoletta, Head of NEMESI, Digital Transformation & Product Cyber Resilience Officer at Leonardo Aerostructures, the presence of leading international players alongside Leonardo further enhances the project’s wealth of know-how and technological impact.

“Pomigliano is one of the longest-standing Leonardo facilities, in operation since 1926, and NEMESI will enable it to continue moving towards the future. This innovation of product, process and site will guarantee a growth of skills and competencies that will be exportable throughout Leonardo and the supply chain.”
