Thanks to the advanced infrared technologies for remote sensing on board of the ATR 42MP, the aircraft will be used for the identification of anomalies and problems on the Campania region in order to optimize the activity of investigation for the prevention and suppression of crime and environmental pollution also the burning of abandoned waste. The first flights began this week and shceduled to occur at least twice a month.

The ATR 42MP can accomplish maritime patrol missions, such as vessel search and identification, search and rescue, operations against illegal drug trade, piracy, smuggling, monitoring and intervening in the case of environmental disasters (oil and chemical substance pollution) and protection of territorial waters. Thanks to its intrinsic versatility, the aircraft can also, through rapid reconfigurations, undertake transport missions for personnel, parachutists, goods, medical evacuation, and the air-launch of emergency kits.

The ATR program, which was developed by the equally owned joint venture set up in the early 1980s between the then Aérospatiale of France, now EADS, and the then Aeritalia, now Alenia Aermacchi, is currently the world leader in regional turboprop aircraft for 50 to 70 passengers.
