Shaping the Future – The New i-Gr@d International Conference

04 October 2022

On 28-29 September 2022, the Leonardo New i-Gr@d International Conference took place in Rome, Italy. New i-Gr@d is a blended learning programme aimed at accelerating the onboarding of new joiners by enhancing their soft and technical skills as well as creating opportunities for networking and the exchange of ideas.

The conference marked the end of a one-year learning journey for around 200 graduates and new joiners from Leonardo’s Electronics business based across the company’s Italian and UK sites.

Wendy Allen, HR Director Leonardo Electronics UK, and Grace Lertora, HR Business Partners and Sites Coordination BU Electronics Italy, delivered the conference keynote speeches. In addition to congratulating the colleagues on their achievements, the speeches focused on the extraordinary range of opportunities now available across Leonardo as well as how best develop and get the most out of their career with the company - both as individuals and as future mentors.

“Our new colleagues will play an essential role in helping shape the future of Leonardo – one which is welcoming and inclusive and continues to offer exciting opportunities to develop cutting-edge technology for our customers”, commented Grace.

“With multiple job roles available across Leonardo’s 106 international sites, our people have a choice of rewarding career paths open to them,” continued Wendy. “We want all those starting their career with us to continue to learn about our business and to find their ideal job – something they are passionate about and something that they can make their own.”

The conference also marked the welcome return of the transnational Leonardo Challenge, with graduates and new joiners coming together to collaborate as international teams for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s challenge asked those on the programme come up with innovative solutions to promote inclusion and diversity throughout the company. Leonardo’s sustainability strategy is committed to enabling this transition, in line with the UN Agenda 2030 (Sustainable Development Goals).

Split into 15 teams, the graduates worked as international teams to come up with new ideas to help Leonardo become a more inclusive workplace.

The winning proposal was to foster international integration and networks through a series of events that allow employees from different countries and cultures to share experiences and learn from each other in order to improve skills and discover new career opportunities.
