Francesco Macrì has been Chairman of Leonardo since May 7, 2026.
Born in Arezzo in 1973, he holds a degree in Law and brings significant administrative and executive experience across a range of industrial and service sectors, with a particular focus on telecommunications, local public transport, energy, environment and infrastructure.
Since 2023, he has been a member of Leonardo's Board of Directors, serving on the Nominations and Governance and the Sustainability and Innovation Board Committees.
Since 2025, he has served as National Vice President for Energy and President of the Biogas and Strategic Fuels Department at Cisambiente Confindustria, the Italian industry association representing private companies operating in the environmental and renewable energy sectors.
Since 2023, he has been Executive Chairman of Estra, Italy's fifth-largest multi-utility in the energy sector. Between 2016 and 2021, he held several senior roles within the group, including Board Member of Estracom and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gas Marca and Estraclima. Since 2023, he has also served as National President of Confservizi, the confederation representing 600 public service companies and over 300,000 employees.
From 2022 to 2026, he held a senior management role at Simtel Group, a general contractor with national and international operations across IT, infrastructure and Data Centre solutions. From 2021 to 2025, he served as Managing Director of Piccini Paolo, a company specializing in petroleum products, liquid fuels, and the management and distribution of automotive gaseous fuels.
Since 2018, he has been President of ITS Energia, Ambiente e Sostenibilità della Toscana and national coordinator of the ITS network for the energy supply chain. Since 2016, he has held senior positions at Utilitalia, the employers' federation representing Italian utilities operating across the energy, environmental and water sectors.
From 2006 to 2016, he served as General Manager of Prosperibus, a partner of BredaMenarinibus (Finmeccanica Group) in the local public transport bus sector. From 2002 to 2006, he acted as Adviser to the Minister of Communications for local authority relations, overseeing national and local cabling rollout policies.
From 1999 to 2006, he held executive roles in companies operating in the telecommunications and IT sectors.
