Enrico Galli, AW149 Value Proposition Specialist, talks about his long-standing passion for aeronautics and the path that led him to work at Leonardo’s Cascina Costa (Varese, Italy) site.
Enrico Galli is a 29-year-old aerospace and aeronautical engineer who works at Leonardo’s Cascina Costa site within the Sales & Marketing area. He is one of many young graduates recruited after completing a university programme which, in his case at the Polytechnic University of Milan, gave him the opportunity to carry out his thesis work at Leonardo on an aeroelasticity phenomenon in helicopters. A highly valuable technical education for the role he now holds within the company: Enrico works in the team responsible for defining helicopter configurations, transforming customer requirements into technical solutions developed together with the engineering functions.
“My colleagues and I,” he explains, “work to interpret the technical performance requirements and customisations requested by customers, liaising with the departments responsible for assessing technical feasibility. In short, our role is to act as a link between the outside world and the company.” The atmosphere in the large open-plan office where Enrico works is particularly young and dynamic: “The average age of the more than 20 engineers in my team is just over 30. It is a very stimulating environment, and it is not unusual to spend time together outside work as well, as we share similar interests and ambitions.”
The helicopter platforms Enrico works on are dual use, meaning they are designed for both civil and military operations. During his four years at Leonardo, he has experienced several moments of personal satisfaction, particularly through his contribution to the completion of important contracts. “What I find most exciting is dealing every day with complex technical topics and contributing to strategic projects in an environment that is constantly evolving.”
With a grandfather who was a civil engineer and a father who is a mechanical engineer, Enrico chose to pursue his interest in aeronautical engineering and aerospace exploration through his studies. To young engineers – or those about to complete their university studies – his advice echoes that of many other recent graduates who joined the company: “Working for an international company like Leonardo means being exposed to demanding and challenging activities. Personally, I had the opportunity from the very beginning to work on highly technological products.” A gateway to both professional and personal growth, for Enrico and many other young people.
