C-27J MPA, the Leonardo-Saudi Arabia agreement covered by the media

17 February 2026

Leonardo will supply four C-27J Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence, providing new maritime patrol and multi-mission capabilities. The agreement has been widely covered by leading newspapers.

The global presence of the Leonardo C-27J Spartan multi-mission tactical transport aircraft continues to grow, with the in-service fleet having surpassed 290,000 flight hours. With deliveries set to begin in 2029, the Royal Saudi Naval Forces will become the 21st C-27J operator worldwide.

The agreement confirms the strong bond between Leonardo and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following the previous order announced in summer 2025 in-country acquisition of two units dedicated to firefighting, cargo transport and medical evacuation tasks. The contract further highlights the platform’s versatility, combining transport, disaster response and in multi-domain surveillance capabilities.
