Leonardo’s plans: faster, energy-efficient AI

19 November 2025

Quantum technologies are a key element of Leonardo’s digital roadmap outlined Industrial Plan, which integrates artificial intelligence, supercomputing, cloud, big data and cybersecurity. Massimiliano Del Barba discusses this in the special feature “L’Economia del Futuro” by “Corriere della Sera”.

Exploring and integrating the most advanced frontiers of innovation is the goal of Leonardo’s digital strategy, which also includes activities and research in the field of quantum technologies. As explained by Massimiliano Dispenza, Head of Quantum Technologies, Optronics & Advanced Materials Labs at Leonardo, “We are experimenting with the progressive integration of quantum technologies, anticipating the impact they will have on Defence, Security and Space.”

Quantum computing–surpassing classical high-performance computing–is precisely the area on which the Leonardo Centre of Excellence for Advanced Cognitive Solutions is focusing. Daniele Dragoni, Head of Quantum Computing Solutions & Head of Sales Engineering Hypercomputing, highlights the company’s pragmatic approach: a hybrid strategy capable of integrating quantum technologies with traditional supercomputing, also thanks to the capabilities offered by the DaVinci supercomputer in Genoa.
