Develop and validate an advanced bio-inspired HDR (High Dynamic Range) vision system based on the ET1080 sensor, capable of improving performance in extreme lighting conditions that are often critical for traditional vision systems, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence algorithms for self-adjusting sensor dynamics. This is the objective of the EYE2DRIVE project, developed following the Bio-inspired sensor technology challenge of Leonardo's Solvers Wanted programme, whose development process was divided into three main phases:
- Phase 1: definition and optimisation of the system's hardware and software integration;
- Phase 2: training and optimisation of artificial intelligence algorithms for self-regulation of dynamics;
- Phase 3: validation of the system and creation of the final fully functional prototype.
All planned deliverables were successfully completed, leading to the creation of an operational prototype capable of dynamically managing the sensor response based on light conditions, reducing the need to combine multiple frames with different exposures.
Thanks to these characteristics, the system developed with Eye-Tech has proven particularly effective in the most critical conditions, paving the way for possible applications in the Aerospace and Defence sectors, where image reliability is a determining factor.
The EYE2DRIVE project is yet another example of how the collaborative approach between Leonardo and the innovation ecosystem can generate cutting-edge technological solutions that support competitiveness and safety.
