Leonardo and the Ansaldo foundation: Opening of the #Women photography exhibition

16 July 2020

Enhancing and strengthening the relationship between industry and culture: this was the goal of the Ansaldo Foundation in launching the “Leonardo in Exhibition” project - a series of exhibitions that will illustrate various social and cultural facets in the life of industrial Italy from the end of the 19th century through the 20th century.

The first event is the #WOMEN photography exhibition, which opened on 13 July and is being staged at Leonardo’s Genoa offices in Via Puccini. Forty photographs and film clips from the Ansaldo Foundation archives illustrate the role that women have played in the world of work, particularly in manufacturing, demonstrating their often difficult journey towards female emancipation and the securing of equal rights and opportunities.

The exhibition was opened in the presence of Raffaella Luglini, President of the Ansaldo Foundation and General Manager of the Leonardo Foundation – CdM, Giovanni Toti, President of the Liguria Region, and Ilaria Cavo, Regional Councillor for Communication, Training, Youth and Cultural Policies.

#WOMEN will continue until 30 October and, in view of the precautionary measures in place due to Covid-19, will not be open to the public but viewable online on the Ansaldo Foundation website and the social media channels, including those of Leonardo.

The Ansaldo Collection is an institution ideally positioned between the worlds of business and culture, the guardian of a historical-industrial heritage of national importance comprising over 15 linear kilometres of documents, more than 800,000 photographs, around 5,300 film clips in their original form and 300 hours of spoken word material.
