We participated in the 2018 National Geographic Festival of Sciences as an Educational Partner, thus providing tangible proof of our commitment to training the new generations in a scientific culture.

Thanks to Leonardo's contribution, over 18,000 young visitors participated free of charge in the laboratories and educational activities of the 2018 National Geographic Festival of Sciences, held in Rome, where they delved deep into the guiding theme of the event: “The causes of things”. The Auditorium Parco della Musica hosted the event, giving life within its walls to playful, interactive and informal spaces that engaged even the youngest visitors. Scientists, philosophers, innovation journalists, researchers and artists attended the Festival to hold interdisciplinary discussions on the theme of the event with the younger generations.

This is Leonardo's commitment as an Educational Partner: take to the field to promote the Company's scientific citizenship, providing first-hand accounts of the invaluable collaboration that guides industry and research every day further into the future.

A spokesperson par excellence

Professor and scientist Amalia Ercoli Finzi, together with a team from Leonardo, accompanied children and students on space exploration during the National Geographic Festival of Sciences

Our presence at the National Geographic Festival of Sciences was enhanced by spokesperson par excellence, professor and scientist Amalia Ercoli Finzi, from Politecnico di Milano. She joined a team from Leonardo to accompany children and students on a route that took them through the main laboratories dedicated to the mission to Mars, space exploration, the theory of gravitational waves and a the Italian edition of the international science talent format called the Fame Lab.

The words of Amalia Ercoli Finzi brought out her incredible experience as a woman and a scientist, and a person passionate about space and knowledge. Her eyes shined with curiosity and trust in the talents of even the littlest participants. By her side was our colleague Marco Molina, CTO of Leonardo's Space Line of Business. He brought to the Festival the martian “drill” made by our Nerviano (Milan) laboratories for the 2020 ExoMars Mission. This technological gem is a prime example of spatial robotics that for the first time will drill two metres deep into the soil on Mars to gather valuable samples and reveal any traces of past or present live on the planet.
